The BMW 320 Group 5 was born out of the intense competition of the Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft (DRM). With a Formula 2-derived turbocharged engine, this car pushed boundaries with its extreme performance and radical design under Group 5 regulations. Driven to victory by legends like Hans-Joachim Stuck and Ronnie Peterson, it took on rivals like Porsche and Ford, setting the stage for turbocharging in future BMW race cars and cementing BMW’s place in motorsport.
The 1977 BMW 320 Group 5 DRM, powered by the turbocharged M12/7 engine, was a standout silhouette racer. With up to 600 horsepower, this front-engine beast dominated the DRM series with its aggressive aerodynamics and impressive racing pedigree.
